August 7, 2025: The contractor is working on both sides of the roadway leading up to the bridge. It will likely be another 6-8 weeks before the SH-28 bridge is open for traffic. This means sometime in September 2025.

July 22, 2025: The contractor on SH-28 poured the bridge deck last week and that project should wrap up in August.  Once completed, we will update citizens so they can utilize SH-28 as an alternate detour route due to the Winganon Causeway and E. 300 Road Project.

SH-20 at Dog Creek Bridge

January 8, 2026: Work continues on SH-20 with the project approximately 55% complete. The contractor is currently installing new expansion joints on the bridge while concrete work proceeds on the substructure below.

November 21, 2025: Traffic is expected to switch to the other side of the roadway in early December

October 8, 2025: This bridge rehabilitation project on the east side of Claremore near the I-44/Will Rogers Turnpike entrance just began Oct. 1. It is scheduled to last about 6 months, weather permitting. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of the project.

This multi-funded project has been in progress since November 2023.

November 21, 2025: Winganon Road opened Nov. 4. There may be some limited road closures as the project is completed.

November 3, 2025:  E. 300 Road (Winganon Causeway Project) will reopen Tuesday, November 4, close to noon. In preparation, contractors will begin removing detour signs and message boards prior to the opening. Please note that a short section will be reduced to one lane for guardrail installation; however, nearly 95% of the road will be open to two-way traffic.

October 31, 2025: The one lane that was slated to open by the end of October has been delayed to opening next week, weather permitting.  Due to several days of rain, several projects throughout the county faced the same delays.

October 16, 2025: One lane will re-open by the end of October and both lanes will be opened by early November, weather permitting.

October 8, 2025: The project is about 90 percent complete. Asphalt paving and subgrade work is occurring throughout the project. The guardrail is being installed along the causeway.

August 28, 2025: Winganon Road is approximately 84% complete. The contractor continues to work on stabilization and asphalt on 300 Rd. The road is expected to be open by early October.

August 6, 2025:  Preparations for paving E. 300 Road are underway and asphalting should begin in about 3 weeks. It is anticipated it will take an additional two weeks to pave, which will mean approximately 5-6 weeks before opening the road completely to allow traffic. During the interim, SH-28 bridge near Alluwe is expected to open sometime in September (8/7/25: edited: originally it was going to open some time in August but additional work is needed that will result in the completion extending it into September.) Additional updates will be posted here and on social media.

July 18, 2025: Winganon Road: This project is 80% complete. E. 300 Road remains closed while the contractor removes the asphalt pavement and rebuilds the road. They are also extending the drain channel along  E. 300 Road.

June 3, 2025 update: This project is 77% complete. The contractor is currently installing the drainage and removing the asphalt pavement on E.300 Rd. A timeframe for when the road will reopen has not yet been given.

May 2025 update: The project is more than 73% complete. The contractor will plan to close two sections of E. 300 Road west of the Winganon Causeway for pavement removal and replacement beginning May 27, 2025. The completion date has not yet been established.

Select either of the detour maps for  local and/or general traffic.

April  22, 2025 update: The contractor was previously working on concrete channel drainage and erosion control along the roadway.

Backstory: The previous flooding events gave rise to the causeway’s asphalt surface to settle and crack. The project will include causeway restoration and enhancements as well as reconstruction of approximately four miles of roadway on EW300 Road from U.S. Highway 169 to the causeway.

The project summary stated there will be some ground disturbance outside of the existing pavement, which is expected. The work further includes some shoulder widening, guardrail replacement, and widening on the causeway.

SH-20 Realignment Project SH-20 Bridge showing fencing that is going up colors off-white, tan and green

September 2025: This project is complete.

July 18, 2025: This project is edging a little above 99% complete, but not quite 100% complete. The contractor is currently working on a punch-list of items including erosion control issues. They are also finishing the fence over the railroad.

June 6, 2025 update: Flint Road: Striping will be done next week on the closed section -- contingent upon the weather. The road should open completely shortly thereafter.

June 3, 2025 update: This project is 99% complete. The overlay on the old SH-20 is nearly complete. After that, there is some general clean up along the new SH-20. Oklahoma Department of Transportation are waiting for the permanent fencing for the bridge over the railroad and SH-66.

April 22, 2025 update: After opening the SH-20 on April 18, 2025, the project is approximately 97% complete. The remaining work includes the permanent fencing along the new bridge as well as the concrete paving along Flint Road. Please be aware of workers in these areas until work is completed. Also, the old SH-20 will be milled and overlayed which will result in some minor delays along there while that is done.

January 8, 2026: :Progress continues on this project. Crews are currently paving the southbound SH-66 ramp that leads to westbound I-44. Additionally, the contractor is preparing to begin pavement work on the new I-44 mainline. Traffic shift on southbound SH-66 is expected early 2026.

November 21, 2025: This project is approximately 60% complete. The contractor is currently working on the bridge for the new flyover ramp as well as working on the north side of the interchange. A traffic shift is expected on SH-66 in early 2026.

October 8, 2025: The contractor is working on building the new mainline of I-44/US-412. They are also hanging beams for the eastbound to northbound ramp. With the recent shift in traffic pattern, we don’t anticipate any major changes to traffic for several months.

September 8, 2025: The  Oklahoma Department of Transportation has revised the estimated completion date for the interchange project—from early 2026 to early 2027. Here’s why: 1. Unexpected rock formations in the northeast section (where the new westbound to northbound ramp is being built) have significantly slowed excavation efforts. 2. ODOT adjusted the scope of the contract to help minimize the closure time for the eastbound to northbound ramp. While it will still need to be closed for approximately 3 months, they’re aiming for that closure to happen next spring.

August 28, 2025:  This project is approximately 44% complete. The contractor has been working on stabilizing the soil for the new mainline of I-44 and completing the bridge piers for the new eastbound to northbound flyover ramp. Traffic should remain in its current configuration for awhile.

July 18, 2025: This project is approximately 30% complete. Excavation continues for the new westbound to northbound ramp. The contractor is also working on the substructure of the new eastbound to northbound ramp bridge. There will be some changes to the traffic pattern coming up in August or September. The southbound SH-66 ramp to westbound I-44 ramp will shift and run adjacent to the eastbound to northbound ramp. This will have SH-66 traffic heading toward Tulsa entering I-44 on the left side.  We will keep you updated when that happens.

June 3, 2025 update: The project is 25% complete. Eastbound I-44 traffic has been moved off the mainline and demolition of the roadway has started. Excavation continues on the northeast side of the interchange. Work on the first abutment for the flyover bridge has also started.

April 22, 2025 Update: The project is 18% complete. Excavation continues on the northeast side of the interchange. Drainage structures are being installed and the flyover bridge header is under construction. Drivers should expect various lane shifts in the coming weeks as work progresses.

August 28, 2025: The SH-66 Bird Creek Bridge is nearly 50% complete. The contractor finished the substructure and is starting to set beams for the new bridge. The bridge deck will follow once that is completed.

July 18, 2025: This project is approximately 20% complete. Work continues on the new bridge’s substructure.

Project status as of June 3, 2025: This project is 14% complete. The demolition of the old bridge is complete and the contractor has started work on the foundation for the new bridge.

The SH-66 Bird Creek bridge work is 5% complete as of April 22, 2025. Part of the truss bridge has already been removed and the contractor is continuing demolition.

Road Closure (24 hours)

August 7, 2025: Road is now OPEN to all traffic. This ended up being a quick project taking about six hours and not requiring 24 hours.

August 6, 2025: On Thursday, August 7 until Friday August 8 -- E. Pine will be closed between S. 4100 and S. 4110 in rural Catoosa beginning 9AM Thursday until early Friday morning on August 8. County crews will need to cut the current road for new pipe installation. Traffic is open to local residents only -- if travel is permitted during that time. Due to the project requirements of cutting the road from one side to the other, there may be some long wait times. Green map showing road closure with red x's and red arrow

Claremore Highway Resurfacing Project

October 8, 2025: This project is complete with the exception of some railroad tie-ins. It is expected to be done by the end of the month.

August 28, 2025: : This project is approximately 56% complete. The contractor will resume night work after Labor Day. They have completed all of the northbound direction of SH-66 and now working on the southbound direction. Once complete, they will do all of the center turn lane areas and then do SH-88.

August 5, 2025: Progress continues.

July 18, 2025:  This is a new project that started July 14. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation contractors will resurface SH-66 from around Flint Road/King Road going north through City of Claremore to Lowry Road, SH-88 and between SH-66 and Kates Ave. This work will be done at night.

One lane in one direction will be closed 7 PM to 7 AM each working night. The contractors are only supposed to close as far as they plan to mill and overlay each night. Business, residence, and other property access will be maintained as well.

This is a three-month project with anticipated completion date mid-October, weather permitting.

Catoosa Highway Resurfacing Project

October 2025: Completed.

August Oklahoma Department of Transportation road maintenance crews began preparation and work to resurface SH-66 in Catoosa on Monday, July 28.  This project should wrap up by mid-August providing no issues evolve.  ODOT crews are not expected to be working on the weekends. Progress continues.

Verdigris Highway Resurfacing Project

August 12, 2025: Completed

August 6, 2025: As crews continue work on SH-66, traffic will be traveling on milled surfaces today and over the weekend. Motorists are cautioned to be aware of road bumps entering and exiting milled roadways. Expect reduced speed in these areas.

August 1, 2025: ODOT road maintenance crews will start the milling and resurfacing project on Tuesday, August 5.  The left southbound lane will remain closed until the overlay is complete. As it stands, the median at Franklin Road will be closed in order to mill, but it will re-open that evening. Work will pick back up the next day [on Wednesday or Thursday] re-closing the median to overlay it with asphalt, and re-opening it later that evening.  The right southbound lane closure will follow and that date will be updated once the left lane resurfacing has completed.
